From a content outsourcing provider in 1980, we are now the largest Filipino-owned BPO company with domain expertise in the Content Solutions, Customer Relationship Management, and Healthcare markets. We also provide services across a wide range of industries, including banking and financial services, legal, government, information technology, media, not-for-profit organizations, retail, and travel.

1980

  • Founded by Alan R. Fraser in Manila, Philippines.
  • SPi Technologies is one of the first companies in Asia to provide content outsourcing services to Fortune 500 companies like Boeing, Reed Elsevier, and Sony.

1991

  • Successful IPO on the Philippine Stock Exchange.

1995

  • Accredited with ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems. SPi is one of the first in the BPO sector to receive this prestigious endorsement.

1997

  • Pioneers in the hybrid onshore-offshore production model: SPi’s Philippine based operations enter the journal editorial and content production market, as well as the litigation support services market.
 
  • Enters the US medical transcription industry.

2002

  • Certified for ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System.
 
  • The launch of the SPi Foundation inaugurates our community investment program.

2003

  • Certified for BS-7799 Information Security Management System.
 
  • Expands book services capabilities in India through the acquisition of Kolam Information Services.
 
  • SPi Foundation begins partnership with The Children’s Hour, an international charity that calls on individuals and companies to donate an hour of their earnings to local programs benefiting children and the youth.

2004

  • TH Lee Putnam Ventures, a global private equity firm, acquires a controlling interest in SPi.

  • Prestigious Science magazine selects SPi Publishing as composition vendor.

  • SPi celebrates its 25th Anniversary. We inaugurate our new corporate headquarters in New York City.
 
  • SPi announces a US$50-million expansion and acquisition plans in India and the US.
 
  • Our e-Discovery Data Center opens in Austin, Texas.
 
  • SPi partners with Springer Science and Business Media, and Philippine social progress organization Gawad Kalinga (meaning “to give care”) to revitalize housing in a Metro Manila slum community.
 
  • SPi Foundation responds to the Tsunami disaster in India with substantial employee and corporate donations. Furthermore, SPi employees respond to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts by supporting the Central Texas High Tech Hurricane Fund for Hurricane Relief, which helped thousands of families that relocated from the Gulf Coast to the areas in and around Austin, Texas.

2006

  • SPi ranks among "Top 10 Best Performing BPO Service Providers" and "Top 10 Leaders in Human Capital Development" in the Global Services 100 Survey for 2005. This survey was conducted by neoIT, a consulting firm specializing in services globalization and the Global Services Magazine.
 
  • SPI Technologies launches its new “SPi” brand name. The company moves to leverage its multiple competencies and synergies through a unified brand.
 
  • SPi named ”Global Outsourcing Leader” by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) in The Global Outsourcing 100 list.
 
  • ePLDT, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Company (PLDT), acquires 100% of SPi.

2007

  • SPi Legal launches its new Managed Review offering. With it, SPi Legal now offers its clients complete, end-to-end discovery and document review services for a simple, per-document price—a first in the industry.
  • SPi Healthcare acquires the source code for Chartnet from Hudson Medical, taking full ownership of its medical transcription platform.
 
  • SPi receives several awards from the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP). The company is included in the categories “Top Offshoring Providers," “Top Companies Serving the Healthcare Industry," “ Top Companies Offering CRM Services,” and “Top Companies Offering Administration and Corporate Services.”

2010

  • Our parent company, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), completes the creation of SPi Global Holdings, Inc. There are now two operating entities under this company: SPi Technologies, Inc. and SPi CRM, Inc. (formerly known as ePLDT Ventus, Inc., which earlier subsumed two other call centers, namely, Vocativ Systems, Inc. and Parlance Systems, Inc.)
 
  • SPi Global wins the International ICT Awards’ “2010 Non-Voice Excellence of the Year Award.”
 
  • SPi continues to rank among the top 10 in the prestigious Global Services 100 Survey. 2011

  • SPi Healthcare, the leading integrated revenue cycle and clinical documentation improvement firm, opens a new facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, to support recent growth in the area and to provide a local footprint for future growth in the US Southeast. The company plans to create 75 new jobs in the Greensboro area by the end of 2013 as part of their growth in this region. SPi Healthcare will offer Revenue Cycle Management services, including full Business Process Outsourcing from the Greensboro facility.
 
  • SPi Global launches Social Media Management (SMM) solution to help companies manage incoming and outgoing online interactions—along with other marketing activities—to maximize customer interactions and brand value. SPi Global’s SMM streamlines and consolidates how companies listen to and participate in relevant conversations in the different places regarding their brand – blogs, social networks such as Twitter or Facebook, and other public and private Web communities and sites.
 
  • SPi Global acquires Laserwords Private Limited from India’s Murugappa Group. Laserwords is one of the pioneers and most successful publishing BPO companies in India. This acquisition will expand the depth and breadth of the company’s content solutions business that is hard to rival in the industry. The strategic acquisition will complement SPi Global’s strong presence in the Scientific, Technical, Medical and Legal verticals with Laserwords’ established foothold in the Education sector.
 
  • SPi Global launches the SPi Innovation Lab, a platform for developing and testing new innovations for clients. The SPi Innovation Lab involves a formal standardized process undertaken with strategic customers to help develop innovations in the BPO content space. It encompasses the company’s strategy, marketing, technology, and research and development units. Among other things, Innovation Lab works on projects involving conceptualizing “e-primary” workflow and production process for books and journals, improving the “content experience” through enhanced eBooks, ePub 3.0 and HTML5 deliverables, partnership approach with client teams in overall process optimization, and pilot projects in services and solutions not commonly outsourced.
 
  • Springer, one of the leading publishers of scientific and professional journals and books in the world, has asked SPi Global to digitize 70,000 books dating back to the 1840s. Springer, which has 165 years of experience in the publishing business, has embarked on this project with SPi Global, a global leader in content outsourcing solutions, to foster scientific innovation in the future. This project is one of the biggest digitization projects in the scientific world and includes the works of distinguished and illustrious authors such as Albert Einstein, Neils Bohr, Rudolf Diesel, Max Born, and Karl von Frisch.
 
  • Springfield Service Corporation (SSC), specializing in revenue cycle management, and Laguna Medical Systems (LMS), specializing in health information management, have rebranded together as SPi Healthcare. This rebranding gives an opportunity for the two companies to leverage their strengths and capabilities and offer a more comprehensive suite of solutions as SPi Healthcare. With this full-spectrum financial health focus, SPi Healthcare takes advantage of the combined strengths of both companies, as well as the backing of parent company SPi Global.
 
  • SPi Global has included Australia in its global resource network to tap opportunities in getting BPO clients from the prosperous continent. This allows the company to help more companies in Australia exploring the possibility of outsourcing to the Philippines because of the reputation of the country for excellent customer service.
 
  • SPi Global has ranked among the top 100 outsourcing service providers in the world, according to the Global Services’ 2011 GS100 list. Global Services is a highly-regarded online and digital publication dedicated to the outsourcing industry.
 
  • The Department of Public Works and Highways taps SPi Global to operate government’s first outsourced call center. It is the first government agency to outsource to tap a private company that will operate and manage its hotline “165-02”. DPWH hopes to bring its customer service to world-class standards with the help of an established and highly regarded call center service provider.
 
  • SPi Global surpassed other foreign BPO companies in Vietnam to win an accolade in the prestigious 2011 Sao Khue Awards. The company received the Sao Khue 2011 Prize for “BPO service for BPO Services Group” from the Vietnam Software Association, or Vinasa, which recognized SPi Global’s excellent conversion solutions in Vietnam.   • SPi Global partners with TNT Shore, a subsidiary of TNT, Europe’s largest postal and logistics operations company, for the digitization of documents to reduce logistics and administration costs. This covers processes that involves 5-second data entry with 99% accuracy, video coding and XML conversion.
 
  • For the sixth consecutive year, SPi Global is included in the Global Outsourcing 100 List by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals. 2012

  • SPi Global’s “Power to Inspire” campaign, our corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, wins the Award of Excellence during the 2012 Philippine Quill Awards.
 
  • SPi Global, through its subsidiary Laserwords, has acquired Tighe Publishing Services, a full-service educational development house in the K-12 educational marketplace.   • Scoot Pte Ltd, the low cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines appointed SPi Global as its call center arm.
 
  • SPi Global holds first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Day. In October 2011, SPi Global set an ambitious goal of generating 15,000 employee volunteer hours by holding simultaneous CSR programs within 24 hours across the company’s 16 global locations. In March 2012, SPi Global exceeded its target and clocked 20,230 volunteer hours benefiting 8,100 children worldwide through 23 outreach projects involving public school rehabilitation, literacy classes, computer training, and leadership training, among others.

  • Asia Outsourcing Gamma Limited (“AOGL”), a company controlled by CVC Capital Partners (“CVC”), acquires controlling share of SPi Global.
