March 10, 2012, Manila, Philippines. SPi Global, the largest Filipino-owned BPO company, today embarked on a global CSR (corporate social responsibility) program that benefitted almost 8,000 kids worldwide with various projects that involved school repairs, literacy classes, arts and sports activities, donation of computers and books, feeding program, and other youth-oriented activities.
All these in one day.
The SPi Global CSR Day, which has the theme “Power to Inspire”, is an event where employees from various SPi Global sites in the Philippines, India, Vietnam and the United States, 16 sites in all, conducted their respective CSR projects within a 24-hour period.
The CSR projects were focused on youth welfare and education. Employees in each SPi Global site were responsible for designing, funding, managing, and executing their own CSR projects.
The original target was 15,000 employee volunteer hours, but because of the enthusiastic response of employees, the target was raised to 18,000 hours, a target that was also exceeded on CSR Day.
“I believe it’s important for us to reach out to our communities and share our ‘malasakit’ (care) to the youth,” said SPi Global President and CEO Maulik Parekh. “This is our chance to help inspire and make a difference in the lives of the children.”
Parekh, along with other top executives of the company, visited various sites in Metro Manila to help the employees implement or launch their projects. Other executives made the rounds in international sites, too. Top clients of the company from the United States and Europe flew to Manila and participated in the various CSR programs joining the company’s employee volunteers with their community outreach programs.
“This will be a yearly event of the company. But while the SPi Global CSR Day is just one day of concerted effort, the projects will be long-term programs that the employees, with the support of the company, will continue to build upon and improve on for the children. This demonstrates our belief that we all have the power to inspire,” said Parekh.
